What do you think about the Olympics? Is the focus too much on London? Are you, like me, already fed up with the advertising and monopolies which seem to be going on? Are we really so gullible we’d believe the planners for the opening ceremony really sit on a train to discuss their ideas?
With 100 days to go, the marketing and PR for the Games of the Eleventy Squillion Olympiad is ramping up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very great thing to compete in the Olympics. The athletes are indeed like racing snakes. Their dedication and singlemindedness does them credit; often they have overcome all odds to be there.
But the sheer commercialisation is doing my nut. Really, honestly, the UK is about so much more than London. Yes, the site is amazing but will it really provide a legacy? Would another town have benefitted more from the investment and publicity?
Check out Anywhere but London. Such a brilliant idea. This blog is all about celebrating the rest of Britain; the parts which won’t be touched or affected by ‘the greatest show on earth’. It’s got beautiful photography, fantastic writing and even some poetry.
It’ll make you feel a little better to know that other people feel the same way.
And reaffirm the fact that Britain really is great.
